Guides

12 guides

built from the same sourced figures as the 17 trade pages and the 30 town pages, and answering a question rather than publishing a rate.

A rate answers what something costs.

These answer the questions that come next.

There are 12 guides here.

They cover how long jobs take, what whole jobs cost, what trades charge by the hour, the day and the call out, what tradespeople earn, and whether to price by the day or the job.

Each is built from the same sourced figures as the 17 trade pages and the 30 town pages.

Same registries, same sources, same rule about never inventing a figure.

What changes is that these pages start from a question somebody asked.

How these are built

The same three rules the rate pages follow, which is why a figure on a guide and the same figure on a trade page can never disagree.

Nothing is typed twice

Every figure on a guide is read from the registry that publishes it, so a guide cannot drift from the page it points at.

Derived is labelled derived

Where a guide multiplies two sourced numbers together, it says the product is ours rather than published.

A missing figure is stated

Where no UK source publishes something a reader wants, the guide says so instead of estimating it.

Your next step

Each of these 12 guides stops at the one question it cannot answer for you, what your own day should cost.

The Rate Sorted calculator works that out from your overheads and the take home you want.
